On February 24, 2023, Sergeant Paulo Gomes attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop of a white Honda Accord traveling southbound on Roseland Avenue. The driver failed to stop and was driving in a reckless manner in an attempt to elude apprehension. Due to a thorough investigation conducted by Detective Jonathan Berger, the driver was identified as Anderson Paulino of Jersey City, 19. On March 31, 2023, Detective Berger charged Mr. Paulino criminally with eluding and obstruction along with several motor vehicle summonses issued by Sergeant Gomes. These charges against Mr. Paulino are merely allegations and he is presumed innocent until he is found guilty in a court of law.
