On April 6, 2025, at approximately 3:45 A.M., Officer Rigas conducted a motor vehicle stop on Roseland Ave. for a vehicle failing to maintain its lane. While Officer Rigas was speaking with the driver, he observed several indicators of someone who may be under the influence of alcohol. Officer Rigas had the driver, a 53-year-old male from Caldwell, NJ, step out of the vehicle so that he could perform field sobriety tests to determine if he was safe to operate a motor vehicle. Officer Ficchi conducted the field sobriety tests and determined that the driver was unable to operate a motor vehicle safely. Officer Rigas placed the driver under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Once in headquarters, the driver refused to provide breath samples for the purpose of testing. He was issued several motor vehicle summonses which included driving under the influence and refusal to submit breath samples. These charges are merely allegations, and the driver is presumed innocent until he is found guilty in a court of law.
