D.U.I. Arrest

On July 6, 2024, at approximately 3:55 A.M., Officer Rigas and Sergeant Leaf conducted a motor vehicle stop for a vehicle that had no front license plate and tinted front driver and passenger side windows.  While speaking with the driver, Officer Rigas detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.  Sergeant Leaf and Officer Rigas had the driver, a 38 year old male from Cliffside Park, NJ, step out so that he could perform field sobriety tests to determine if he was safe to operate a motor vehicle.  Sgt. Leaf administered the tests and determined that the driver could not operate a motor vehicle safely.  He was placed under arrest for driving under the influence and transported back to police headquarters.  Once in headquarters, the driver failed to provide adequate samples of his breath for the purpose of testing.  He was issued several motor vehicle summonses for driving under the influence, refusal to submit breath samples, tinted windows, unclear plates, failure to have his drivers license in his possession and having unsealed cannabis in a motor vehicle.  These charges are merely allegations and the driver is presumed innocent until he is found guilty in a court of law.
