On September 20, 2024, at approximately 1:00 A.M., Officer Chiuchiolo was conducting a motor vehicle enforcement detail on Roseland Ave. when he observed a moving violation and conducted a motor vehicle stop. The driver, a 31-year-old female from West Caldwell, NJ, displayed several signs consistent with someone who may be under the influence of alcohol, which included a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from her mouth and an inability to gather her documents. Officer Gonzalez arrived on scene and had the driver exit the vehicle so that she could perform standard field sobriety tests to determine whether she could safely operate a motor vehicle. After the tests were completed, Officer Gonzalez determined that the driver could not safely operate a motor vehicle and Officer Chiuchiolo placed the driver under arrest for driving under the influence. Once back at headquarters, the driver submitted breath samples for the purpose of testing. It is alleged that her blood alcohol content was above the legal limit. The driver was issued summonses for driving under the influence and failure to maintain lane. These charges are merely allegations, and the driver is presumed innocent until she is found guilty in a court of law.
